Capriana Monastery

Capriana Monastery is located in Moldova Republic, about 40km west of Chisinau. Capriana Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Moldova; it was originally built in first half of the 15th century.

Capriana Monastery was founded by the ruler of Stefan the Great; and it was center of Moldova’s bishops for a long period. The first monastery building was built of wood, the stone church wa constructed in the middle of the 16th century. St. George church and St. Nicolae church were built in the 19th and 20th centuries.

The monastery is open for the public, now. Around the monastery, Capriana-Scoreni Nature Reserve, the oak-tree of Stefan the Great, and the Codrii Nature Reserve are worth visiting.
