St. Nikola Shishovski Monastery is located in the northern part of Macedonia, about 20 km from Skopje, on top of the cliff above Lake Matka. There is no written evidence for the original building of the monastery but it was first mentioned in the 17th century. Monastery was uninhabited during the 18th century and it was only resettled in the 19th century. From St. Nikola Monastery there is a great view of the lake and its surroundings.

Close to St. Nikola Monastery, there are other interesting monastic sights on Matka Lake such as St. Andrew’s Monastery and Matka Monastery.
